Ashton Athletic - Saturday 21st September - 3pm @ Home
Founded in 1968 Athletic played in the local leagues and gained enough success to try their hand at proper football, becoming founder members of the Northwest Counties league in 1982. Lack of ground improvements meant that the club were relegated two divisions in 1986. Since those dark days the club has embarked on a youth development / community club project which has seen them improve the facilities enabling them to re-enter the North West Counties league and set strong foundations which will see Ashton Athletic well for the future.
2013 /2014 So far…..
It took a 114th minute goal from Joe Hull in a 0-1 win in the previous round to set up Saturdays match and Ashton Athletic sit 9th in the equivalent league to ours, having won three and drawn two of the eight league games they have played so far.
This should be the last time this season we play a team from Ashton. So Lets make it a “gud un” by continuing our recent goal scoring form and make progress in the competition that very nearly saw us down Wembley way a couple of seasons ago.
Up the Welfare!
