New boy Nathan Benger adding a third before half time.
The visitors never gave up however, and pulled a goal back early in the second half, but despite piling on the pressure the job had already been done in the first half and The Welfare ran out comfortable and deserved winners!

Next we take the longest trip of the season deep into heartbeat country to face…
Pickering Town - Away - Saturday 14th September 3pm
The Pikes have been around for nearly as long as football itself having been formed in 1888, playing for years in the local leagues before joining the Yorkshire league in 1972 and the NCL in 1982.
2013 / 14 So far
Another of those teams that are “tipped to do well” Town have had what I think you could call an up and down start to their season. After beating Parramore on the opening day it wasn't until September that they tasted victory again, smashing Lincoln Moorlands Railway 6-0. The form guide reads P6 W2 D2 L2 LDDWLW - #average.

No point doing a fancy graphic this time as out of the three games played there's been a Win Loss and a Draw for both sides (funnily enough). Goal difference doesn't even separate the sides (scored 5 and let 5 in). In fact the only way to separate the sides would be by toss of a coin or who had the nicest shirts. Actually scratch that as both teams play in Blue!
Interesting Facts
- The town apparently got its name from a King that lost a bit of jewellery in 270BC and found it in a fish! “PIKE -RING“.
The legend goes that he accused a girl of stealing it and then later married her when they caught the offending fish... I wonder if they had invented chips by then….
- My Great Grandfathers surname was Pickering, and he was a signalman at Barrowhill he was also in their Homeguard battalion. "Don't tell him PIKE"
Hope to see you all at the weekend but please be aware that the nearby North York Moors Railway is having a Diesel Gala weekend and this may increase the traffic slightly in the area.
The post code for the ground is YO18 7DB.
Safe Journey to all.
UP THE WELFARE!
