First Team: Meaningful Goals 2014-2015

"Meaningful Goals" is back for another season...and aims to find the player whos goals made the most telling contribution to our season. the gamechangers if you like....

So goals that;

Give us a lead will earn the player two points, regardless of the final result

Put us level will get a point.

Give us a two goal cushion will get half a point, as will a goal that reduces the deficit to a single goal.

Put us three (or more) goals to the good will be considered as just the icing on the cake and won't be rewarded, similarly goals that bring us to within two (or more) goals of the opposition will be considered as mere consolations and hence also not credited.

The most recent game will be first so to review this from the start of the season go to the bottom and work your way up,and for this table cup goals will count.

02/05/2015 - The season ends with unfortunately no more goals to add after the 0-3 defeat to Cleethorpes town and therefore there is no change to the table from last time out and Jahmal Smith is crowned "Meaningful Goals Champion 2014 / 2015".

01/05/2015 - just the three goals to add, Jahmal Smith's equaliser against Armthorpe stretches his lead at the top by one point.

Sam Finlaw scored the goal that put us in the lead v Nostell and with that goal jumps a whopping seven places in the table and Kurtis Morley's point for the equaliser away at Albion means that the race for second is hotting up nicely with just one game left to play.

07/04/2015 - no less than 6 players have scored points this time around

Kurtis Morley, Lee Whittington, Ross Goodwin lead the way with 4.5 points each, Ryan Watters is a new entry, Jahmal Smith stretches his lead in the table but he just cannot get himself away from Ellis Wall.

Kurtis? - Scored the goals that gave us a lead in the Barton and Glasshoughton games and also the one that gave us a two goal cushion in the latter.

Lee ? - Two lead givers v Barton and Glasshoughton and the consolation (within 1) goal in the 90th minute v Pickering Town

Ross ? - A lead giver v Pickering and also in the cup against Albion Sports where he also grabbed the goal that started that sensational comeback from 2-0 down.

Ryan  scored the equaliser away at Parkgate so gets 1 point (what a goal it was too)

Jahmal scored the equaliser against Albion and also the winner v Parkgate

and last but not least is Ellis whose 90th minute strike v Barton Town grabbed all three points netting him 2 points.

03/03/2015 - Diving straight in.... Ellis Wall takes 3 points from the games since the last update with the equaliser away to Heanor and the goal that gave us the lead away to Liversedge.

Kutis Morley also bagged himself a useful 1.5 points with the goal that put us two to the good at Liversedge and the one that gave us the lead that the team couldn't hold onto in the 1-2 defeat at home to Maltby and...

Michael Trench grabbed a point with the equaliser away at Handsworth Parramore...

13/02/2015 - Probably should update this a bit more often as since the last update there's been "one or two goals" scored :)

Firstly Staveley put in a five star performance against Retford at home, but because all five went in without reply only two of them count for this...Jahmal Smith put us in the lead that day so gets two points and as Damien Magee made it a little bit more comfortable by putting us two up he gets 0.5 and joins the table for the first time this season.

next up was the brilliant 3-2 win at home to Heanor Town where we had to dig deep to win the game, Jahmal Smith and Ellis Wall both scored equalisers which means a point each and Jahmal also scored the goal that finally put us in the lead so takes a massive three points from this one game, and the goal scoring machine that is Jahmal Smith fired the equaliser away to Bridlington so gets a further point.

Two games followed where no goals were scored by us so don't affect the table (v Worksop Town and Shaw Lane Aquaforce)

So that just leaves the game away at Thackley where our two goals were both lead givers and therefore Ross Goodwin and Ellis Wall take two points each.

Mix all that lot together and what have you got...?

19/12/2014 - Since the last update there have bee three games, three of them wins and 8 goals have been scored, but how many of them have meant something?

Kurtis Morley grabbed the headlines in the 4-2 home win against Albion Sports with a first half hat-trick which twice put us in the lead and equalised once grabbing Kurtis an impressive 5 points and showing this competition really can go down to the wire like last season when Matt Thorpe grabbed the title on the last day.

Jahmal Smith also kept up the impressive start he's made here at Staveley as not only did he get the fourth and final goal which put us two in front against Albion Sports, he also scored two lead giving goals and ultimately winning goals against Cleethorpes and Armthorpe.

New signing James Kay took no time at all to get settled in by scoring the equaliser, a stunning left footed drive against Cleethorpes, and Craig Fisher jumps five places in the table thanks to the goal that gave us a 1-2 lead in the same game.

21/11/2014 - Due to my computer being out of action its been a while since we visited this competition.

Four games have been played and 10 goals have been scored, since last time with 7 of those counting.

Jordan Eagers, Jahmal Smith and Jordan Hodder have all scored goals to put us in the lead. (Barton, Garforth, Athersley Rec and Bottesford)

Sam Finlaw is the only player to have scored an equaliser (Garforth) and giving us a two goal cushion, at the time they scored is Pat Lindley (Athersley) and Jahmal Smith (Bottesford) again.

So after throwing all those into the bean counter the table looks like this

21/10/2014 - Since the last update we've scored 8 goals in 4 games, its technically 3 games as we failed to "notch" against Rossington.

Ellis Wall scored the goal that put us into the lead, and the one that extended that lead against Tadcaster Albion to take 2.5 points.

Ryan Damms' goal against Retford gave us the lead and Nathan Forbes extended that lead which we never relinquished and in similar fashion Pat Lindley gave us the lead and and new boy, Jahmal Smith extended it to 2, against Pickering...so the table now looks like this...

Damms.R 6

03/10/2014 - Joe Flint joins the table this week with the goal that gave us the lead against Glasshoughton as does Craig Fisher from the same game with the goal that gave us a two goal advantage.

Pat Lindley's wonder strike however doesn't count as we were already 2-0 up and cruising by the time that went in...(great goal though).

Also joining the table is Ross Goodwin whose goal put us back in front against Maltby. Also putting us in the lead that day was Ryan Damms, and he followed up that goal with a simply stunning equaliser against Worksop Town.

Fisher.C 0.5

23/09/2014 - just the one meaningful goal to add to the table since the last update which was Nathan Forbes equaliser against Parkgate last Wednesday as we've failed to score in the two games that sandwiched that 1-1 draw.

07/09/2014 - We've had three games since the last update and we'll gloss over our nil scoreline in the Shaw Lane game and concentrate on the 3 we notched in the Fa Cup at Rainworth where Nathan Forbes once again added to his tally with the goal that gave us the lead and Ryan Damms strike which gave us a two goal cushion, Oli Ryans first of the season put the game to bed but doesn't count as far as points in this table go.

Ellis Wall scores 1 point for the equalising goal in the Athersley Rec Fa Vase game which unfortunately was our only one in a 1-2 defeat.

Player Points
Nathan Forbes 3
Jordan Eagers 2.5
Ellis Wall 2.5
Matt Thorpe 2.5
Ryan Damms 1

24/08/2014 - Jordan Eagers added two more points to his total as he gave us the lead against Thackley, Ryan Damms goal got himself onto the table by putting us two nil up at the time.

Nathan Forbes equaliser against Nostell gives him one point and Matt Thorpe starts his title defence with a brace against Nostell which put us back in the lead and stretched that lead to two goals.

Player Points
Jordan Eagers 2.5
Matt Thorpe 2.5
Ellis Wall 2
Nathan Forbes 1
Ryan Damms 0.5

18/08/2014 - Unfortunately for Matt Hassett our first goal of the season counted for little as we we're already four nil down at the time.

However Ellis Walls goal against Worksop Town in the FA cup gave us the lead, so he takes 2 points and the early lead in the race to be "Meaningful Goals Champion 2014/15" - will he take the title, won last season by Matt Thorpe?.

Breathing down his neck is Jordan Eagers whose goal on the same night gave us a two goal cushion earning the club captain a useful 0.5 points.

Player Points
Ellis Wall 2
Jordan Eagers 0.5
