Season: 1991 / 1992 in pictures.

Division 3 Penistone Church Reserves who won just three games all last season got underway with  fine 4-3 victory over new comers Staveley MW.

Staveley went ahead after 25 minutes when John Stacey scored following a corner but this lifted 'Church Platts struck an upright, and Greenwood forced a fine save from Houghton, before Lee Robinson then levelled for Penistone from the spot.

Just three minutes later Neil Havenhand restored Staveleys lead with a fierce drive from 15 yards.

Straight from the second half kick off Robinson again levelled for 'Church again from the spot after woods was judged to have fouled Wetton inside the box.

Staveley were soon back in front though this time through Kevin Lee's glorious 25 yard piledriver on 53 minutes.

However Wetton made it 3-3 before Eyre escaped his marker to fire home late on to give Penistone all three points.

12/10/1991 - Green Un - Sheffield Senior Cup: 2nd Round

Pride of place goes to County Senior Division 3 newcomers Staveley MW, who despite fielding an under strength side went to premier division East Pennine and clinched an excellent 2-0 victory. Pennine currently riding high in the top flight and undefeated in the league failed to score for the first time this season.

Staveley's Steve Shipp (above) headed home John Seels corner with just ten minutes left before makeshift striker Shane Turner made the game safe late on.

Staveley crashed out in the next round to Northern Counties East League side Stocksbridge Park Steels losing 5-0 with all the goals coming in the first half.

Staveley MW move up to fourth after a fine fightback brought them a 5-2 win over Sheffield Post Office who were on a run of five wins from six outings and looked likeley to extend it when they led 2-0 after 20 minutes. Staveley had other ideas though and doubles from John Seels and Mark Stuart and one from John Stacey secured the points for the home side.

STAVELEY STEP UP TO THE TOP

Staveley MW went top of the Whitbread County Senior Division Three after a 2-2 draw with fellow title chasers Throstles Ridgeway.

Staveley took a first half lead when Ady Wells scored on his debut. Unbeaten Throstles levelled through Greg Mattocks in the 75th minute and looked set for victory when sub Richard Coleman scored nine minutes from time.

But Staveley salvaged a point in a dramtic finale when a goal bound chip by ex-Chesterfield striker Phil Greaves (wonder what he's doing now...) was brilliantly pushed round the post by a defender, who was duly dismissed before John Seels converted the penalty.
