FA Vase v Morpeth Town 7th December

Next up for Staveley Miners Welfare is a return home, as the Carlsberg sponsored FA Vase rolls into town again.

This time its the third round proper and having already seen off Ashton Athletic, West Didsbury and Chorlton and a tough Glossop North End from the North West Counties League, we face…

…Morpeth Town - 7th December 3pm at Home

The Highway Men are from Northumberland and play in the Northern League, a  very strong division evidenced by the fact that the last five FA vase titles have gone to teams from this league, including Dunston UTS who in 2012 defeated us at the semi final stage.

Morpeth currently sit in 20th place on 22 points courtesy of 6 wins and  then obviously 4 draws, from their 21 games so far the majority of which have come at home.

Perhaps of more relevance to us in terms of judging just how good Town are is that this season they have beaten recent visitors Liversedge, from our division, in the FA cup 6-0 and they set up this tie by defeating NCEL division one joint leaders Cleethorpes Town 6-1,in the last round. Probably worth adding that Cleethorpes had two sent off and missed two penalties in that game.

Finally....Morpeths danger men come in the shape of Ex Dunston UTS man Michael Chilton who has 21 goals from 30 appearances, in all competitions and midfielder Sean Taylor who has also bagged himself a hat full this season with 18 in 28 appearances also taking 7 man of the match awards.

ourselves? well we've come unstuck in the last two games but, we were never going to go the rest of the season unbeaten, the lads will be up for this one. After all there's no better place to get back on track than "The road to Wembley?"

As always it’s £5 for adults and £3 concessions. Enjoy the game!

Up the Welfare.
