After another unwanted “winter break” because of the weather the Trojans made the short trip to face the Tigers and made a number of changes to the line-up that nearly managed to grab a point away at Garforth Town some twenty one days previously. That game had ended with only nine Staveley players left on the field having seen Andrew McCreadie and Liam Nelthorpe sent off the field of play so Tom Ellis moved from the left hand side of midfield to the centre to cover for Nelthorpe and Josh Madin came back in at centre back for McCreadie. (Both suspended players were still in attendance to watch their team mates) Other absentees for various reasons saw Matty Leese return in goal, Josh Barker and Jack Turnbull filled the left and centre midfield position on the right was new signing Liam Greenfield who having signed from the Trojans opponents was playing his first game in Staveley blue and white where he played his last game in tigers yellow and black! And Kurtis Morley returned to partner Tyla Bell upfront.

Bell looked sharp early on, and chased a through ball which just went through to Callum Fielding between the sticks for the home side, then his quick feet enabled him the space to send Kurtis Morley “in behind” but the move was stopped thanks to an flag from the assistant on the near side.

The opening stages gave rise to what could be a really entertaining game as Worksop started to “have a go” a rare slip from Connor Williamson in defence allowed Alec Denton a clear run on goal but he shot wide, then Lee Hill from a freekick forced Matty Leese into a good save down to his left, holding on as forwards came in to stab home.

Eight minutes in and a quick crisp passing move from the home side saw Jack Holden cut across the ball as he shot for goal but his technique rather than control the shot and drill it towards goal sent it ballooning over.

Two minutes later Josh Barker closed down sam Liversedge forcing him into a poor crossfield pass that landed straight at his former team mate Liam Greenfield who “scooped” a delightful ball over the top of the worksop defence aiming for and finding Josh barker who had made an excellent run into the box and was fouled as he collected it, resulting in a penalty to the Trojans…

…Kurtis Morley stepped up… but saw his strike saved by Callum Fielding.

Then despite still mounting an attack from a surging run by Liam Greenfield whose final touch before a shot on goal let him down it all started unravel for the Trojans as the penalty save seemed to deflate the Staveley players and have the opposite effect on the Tigers.

A dangerous looking crunching challenge on Liam Greenfield went unpunished then a long ball down the middle found Alec Denton who rounded Matty Leese in the Staveley goal and slotted home to put the home side infront twnety five minutes in,arguably against the run of play.

Staveley were still in the game however and had a couple of opportunities to perhaps draw level but were guilty of overplaying the ball rather than having the confidence to shoot when the chances presented themselves.

The good start was a distant memory by halftime as just past the half hour Ivor Mylnarski received a quick freekick over on the left handside and rolled his way past the Staveley defence to rifle home a left footed shot into the far corner.

Worksop Town 2 -0 Staveley MW

And the match was effectively over before the break when Mlynarski took advantage of a defensive error, sticking it into an empty net.

The second half didn’t get much better and the Trojn fell further behind on sixty six minutes when Jack Holden poked home a corner at the far post.

Worksop Town 4-0 Staveley MW

With ten minutes remaining Liam Greenfield and Josh Madin had chances to make the scoreline slightly better to read with a diving header from a Tom Ellis cross for the former and a shapped curling effort which just went over the angle of crossbar and post from the latter.

And in the last minute the final nail was placed in the coffin when Charlie Baird danced his way through several Trojan defenders to plant the ball inside the near post, and finish of a miserable afternoon in S80.
