A very entertaining game between Staveley Miners Welfare
U21s and Buxton U21s kicked the season off last night (Friday) and a healthy
crowd turned out to witness what was an excellent spectacle for the league.
I have to say the hospitality at Staveley's Inkersall Road
ground is right up there with the
very best and playing home games on a Friday evening is a great way for supporters to start off the weekend.
very best and playing home games on a Friday evening is a great way for supporters to start off the weekend.
Staveley dominated the first half creating lots of chances
in front of goal and the free flowing football is very pleasing on the eye, Jay
Roper and Steve Bates have a very talented group of young players and the club
ethos of the play the games as it should be played i.e. on the floor and with a
smile on your face was shown in abundance throughout this game.
A clever move down the right wing involving Tom Gambles and
Ryan Watters was finally turned in by the very busy Ryan Walters and the lead was
doubled just before half time when George Johnson slid the ball home from a
difficult angle.
Into the second half and it was Buxton who came out with a
point to prove and they took the game to their hosts playing some nice football
but never really creating any clear opportunities.
The game was now end to end
and very entertaining and although Staveley created the clearer cut chances in
front of goal they couldn’t get the 3rd goal which would have put
the game to bed.
In the end the three points went to the home team and after
two difficult games in the space of 3 days (v Ollerton last Wednesday) the
Staveley players will be resting up and no doubt looking forward to their next
game.
