29th v Killamarsh Athletic (H) - A much tighter affair as two teams with championship aspirations went head to head at Inkersall Road. John Turton and Mick Berry scored the goals which brought Athletic back from two down after Andy Marples and Paul Brodie had given Staveley a commanding lead. The game was settled in Staveleys favour by a dramatic Kevin Lee goal in the final seconds. 3-2
October
4th v Alfreton Town (A) (friendly) - Shane Turner and Paul Brodie provided the goals in a remarkable 1-2 friendly win over the then Northern Premier League side, it remains to be seen who played for Alfreton though.
6th v Three Lions (H) - Law of averages states you'll come unstuck at some point and thats exactly what happened against the side from Meden Vale. Although it wan't a complete disaster as Steve Shipp and Mark Stuart scored the goals that ensured a 2-2 draw.

27th v Killamarsh Athletic (A) - the unbeaten start tot he season came to an end the home side winning 2-0 which apparently could have been a cricket score if it hadn't be for D.Houghton's heroic display in goal.
November
3rd v Hasland New Inn (A) (Leesons Hospital Cup 2) - Determined to avenge last seasons cup final defeat Rob Langley and Kevin Lee got this seasons campaign off to a comfortable start, securing a 0-2 win.
10th v Holymoorside (H) - Kevin Lee and Mark Stuarts brace made sure the search for a victory went on for Holymoorside. 3-0.
17th v Marsh Lane (A) - The home side took over the mantle of main challengers as Staveley slumped to a 3-0 defeat.
December
1st v Coalite Reserves (H) (LHC 3) - Santa was giving out early presents in the shape of goals, Shane Turner, Grant Hickton, Tim Harrison and Simon Quigley all helped themselves to one. Mark Stuart got a bit greedy with 6 (six). 10-0.
Shane Turner
15th v Glassworks (H) (Graham Cup 2) - Comfortable progress was assured with another hattrick from Mark Stuart and one each from Tim Harrison, Simon Quigley and Rob Langley. 6-1
In other news Staveley Miners Welfare Old Boys a different side from Division three, also progressed but they only managed to win 5-1.
22nd v New Whittington (A) (GC3) - the next round wasn't long in coming and Paul Brodie, Darren Slinn and once again Mark Stuart all scored to confirm a 1- 3 win.
Incidentally the "old Boys" were knocked out at this stage by Newbold Industry
29th v Michaels Broad Oaks (A) - Mick Waller broke the hearts of Staveley fans, sort of, with a last minute equaliser after Mark Stuart and Dave Hickton had put the away side into a 0-2 lead.
January
12th v Holymoorside (A) - There was a distinct lack of league tables printed in the papers this season so you'll have to take my word for it that....
...at the start of the new year, Staveley Miners Welfare were top of the league but were made to fight for the two points they eventually won in this game, a 2-3 victory thanks to goals from Simon Quigley Steve Shipp and Paul Nicholls.
19h v Unstone Athletic (A) - two more points were gained in this encounter against last years champions, 1-0 down going into the last ten minutes.
26th v Three Lions (A) (HCqf) Neil Havenhand with 2 and Steve Shipp scored Staveleys three goals but, it was still not enough to win the game out right and the side from Meden Vale that were the first to take points off Staveley in the league, once again proved a tough nut to crack as they also scored three to take it to extra time.
With no more goals in the extra 30 minutes it was left to Paul Brodie,Carl Slinn, Phil White and Mark Stuart to seal a Semi Final place from 12 yards out in the ensuing 3-4 penalty shootout win.
February
2nd v Killamarsh Athletic (A) (GC4) - it wasn't to be a back to back cup celebration as the home side progressed thanks to a narrow 1-0 win.
23rd v Three Lions (A) - the Peter Blakes Chesterfield and District Amateur League was proving a difficult one to predict and anyone really was beating anyone. Two games after being knocked out of the cup by Staveley the 9th placed lions roared back and took revenge, winning 3-2. Phil White and Andy Knowles got Staveleys goals.
March
2nd v Marsh Lane (H) (Byron Cup qf) - The fourth cup competition of the season got underway at Inkersall road and Tim Harrison's goal ensured progress. 1-0.
9th v Coalite Sports (H) Back to the league and a three point lead was opened up at the top thanks to Paul Brodie who got both goals in this 2-0 win.

23rd v Markham Colliery (H) - Paul Brodie was on the score sheet again as was Tim Harrison, but literally grabbing the headlines was Dave Hickton as his "Double ket Staveley on course" 4-0
30th v Industry Inn (H) - Dave Hickton scored his "double double" to secure another two points in this 2-0 win.
April
13th v Unstone Athletic (H) - Dave Hickton went one better this time and by scoring a hattrick against the reigning champions took his tally to an amazing seven goals in three games.
The home sides 3-1 win all but guaranteed the trophy would not be returning to Unstone's cabinet this time around.
20th v Sheepbridge Sports (H) - an emphatic 6-1 win took Staveley within touching distance of the title Dave Hicktons eight, Ninth and Tenth goals in four game added to a Paul Brodie Double and one from Neil Havenhand ensure that staveley were in Pole Position going into the final league game of the season...a winner takes all encounter with Marsh Lane who had quietly been racking up the wins making their games in hand count.
22nd v Killamarsh Athletic (N - Sheepbridge) (HCsf) - the League "Showdown" would have to wait however and perhaps it weighed heavy on the Staveley players as they crashed out of the hospital cup at the worst possible stage John Turton and Mick Berry delivering the decisive blows 2-0.
May
1st v Michael's Broad Oaks (N - Tubeworks) (BCsf) - Better news as Staveley reached the final of the Byron Cup taking an early lead through Tim Harrison, but despite losing goalkeeper Nigel Clarke to injury, Broad Oaks came storming back to lead 2-1 with John Stacey getting both.
Neil Havenhand equalised and with just ten minutes remaining Tim Harrison scored his second and Staveley third from thirty yards.
4th v Marsh Lane (H) - The final game of the league season between two sides that could take the top division title was afforded just three lines in the newspaper report, and even that measly amount didn't make good reading for Staveley as it read...
"Marsh Lane are the Division One Champions as they beat Staveley Miners Welfare 0-2. their goals came from an Andy Thorpe double. The Welfare now finish as runners up."
16th v Killamarsh Athletic (N - Saltergate) (BC F) - the final of the Byron Cup was played at the now former home of Chesterfield FC (its a housing estate now) and represented the fifth meeting between the two sides. Athletic had the better of the record however as they had three wins (1 league 2 cup) to Staveleys one (league)...
Staveley took the lead after Mark Stuart prodded the ball into an empty net following a goalmouth scramble. This sparked Killamarsh into life and they were rewarded when Houghton in the Staveley goal palmed the ball into his own net from a Russ Lilley long throw.
Ten minutes into the second half Athletic took the lead they were to hold till the end. Dave Bright "Stroked" the ball home after good work by Man of the Match Russ Lilley.
Despite some late pressure Staveley were unable to equalise and having been in the hunt for three trophies with just four games to go ended the season with nothing...apart from the Charity Shield!
Final League Table
Unfortunately the final table wasn't cut out of the paper and stuck into the scrap book, the writer did try to piece it together from the available results however it was still 150 odd results short so...
However from the write ups ... Marsh Lane were champions, Staveley Miners Welfare finished second and presumably Hasland New Inn finished bottom and were relegated.
