MATCH PREVIEW v Bridlington 09/08/14

An unbeaten preseason drew to a close, for us at least on Saturday with an experimental team defeating Swallownest 2-4 following the 1-1 draw with Matlock the night before.

The Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier League (aka NCEPL) kicks off proper next Saturday 9th August and we’re at home to perennial title favourites…

Bridlington Town…

The phrase “there or thereabouts” could’ve arguably been coined for the seasiders, last seasons 12th place finish was there lowest since re-joining the NCEPL in 2002 / 2003 and they have won the title twice In that time on each occasion decideding not to take promotion.

Now, pre-season isn't usually a good barometer of how teams will do in the forthcoming season, for a number of reasons, experimental squads, different standards of opposition, not being fully fit etc etc.

None the less I thought it would be fun to have a look at how each team has done and have compiled the following table.

Its ranked based on “points per game” if in fact points were available in preseason, because some have played more than others...

As you can see Brid are very near the top having banged in 18 goals in 6 games so far, and as last seasons opener proved first games don’t come much tougher than Bridlington.

There's still a few more games for some teams to play before the big kick off, but I might...only might, update the table if only because it will be interesting to see if the season reflects the form so far.

Previously at: Inkersall Road

The league record shows that here, both teams are pretty evenly matched with Bridlington just edging it only on goal difference, it could’ve been so much better though had we held on for just a few more seconds in last seasons encounter – a pulsating 3-3 draw on 23rd of March 2014 in which first Joe Flint then Matt Thorpe and Flint again had given us the lead three times.

The report is here if you wish to relive it.

Final Thoughts

It’ll take at least ten games to see where both teams are form wise but “on paper” this looks like being one of the games of the day in the Premier League.

The referee for Saturday is Liam Jones from Nottinghamshire and as always its…

£5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
