SHIPP STEAMS IN TO SINK SPIRE RANGERS

Staveley MW got their season off to a great start with a splendid 4-2 away victory at Spire Rangers in Division One. But it was the hosts who took an early lead when after just two minutes Ian Simms netted.
It was a short lived advantage as three minutes later Simon Quigley nodded in for the Welfare leveller. Staveley then took the initiative and after 35 minutes Steve Shipp converted a spot kick, but right from the restart Spire made it all square through John Gould.
Shipp got his second to make it 3-2 and new signing Jerry O'Connell marked his debut with Staveleys fourth ten minutes from time.

LATE HAT-TRICK STUNS STOOPS

Staveley MW's Alma Cup third round tie with first Division colleagues Nags Head went ahead on an icy Inkersall Road pitch with a massive crowd of over 400 (four hundred!!! for a Sunday league cup game!!) in attendance.

Nags bellied their lowly placing in the top flight by taking the lead when Paul Sturgess converted a left wing cross with 15 minutes gone.
Staveley bombarded the Nags goal but visiting keeper Jamie Baldwin performed heroics pulling of a string of fine saves.

But...in th last minute he was beaten when substitute Stuart Bargh scrambled the ball home to force extra time. Five inutes into the additional half hour Steve Botchett went through to notch a fine solo effort to give Staveley the advantage.

In the second period Dave Briscoe popped up to level the scores at 2-2 and earn Nags a replay at Rother Park this Sunday...(which we went on to win 2-1 goals coming from Paul Nicholls and Simon Quigley.

NOT QUITE WEMBLEY BOUND

Staveley MW will represent the Sunday League in the Chesterfield FA's Super Cup final following thei impressive 5-1 destruction of highly rated Amateur League Killamarsh Athletic in last weeks semi final at the CSPO ground.

Killamarsh in their first season in the Amateur League have reached three finals and with a powerful opening spell looked set to sweep Staveley aside.

But veteran defender Dave Pugh along with young keeper Andy Walker and Darren Adams helped keep them at bay and Staveley weathered th storm.

Four minutes before the break the pacy Paul Nicholls ran clear to open Staveleys account then just moments after the restart the his cross was prodded home by unlucky Killamarsh defender Booth.

Five minute later the Sunday side stretched their lead when Steve Botchett went clear to hit the third.

Craig Hider gave Killamarsh some hope when he headed home from a corner but seven minutes from time Paul Brodie's pace left Athletic for dead and when his cross came over thre was Nicholls to apply the finishing touch.

Steve Botchett hit his second two minutes later hooking the ball home from six yards after a defensive mix up..

Staveley meet Unstone Athletic i what is sure to be a cracker of a final.
