LEE STRIKES A WINNER FOR MINERS

The Division One Match of the Day saw two teams both with championship hopes meet at Staveley with a close victory 3-2 by Staveley Miners Welfare over Killamarsh Athletic.

The winning goal came in the dying moments of the game, after the Athletic had pulled back a two goal deficit.

On the mark for Staveley were Andy Marples, Paul Brodie and Kevin Lee, with John Turton and Mick Berry replying for Athletic.

MARSH MEN SHOOT DOWN THE MINERS

Killamarsh Athletic look contenders for the Division One title with a 2-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Staveley Miners Welfare.

Their goals came from Kevin Stanley and Craig Hides and but for a heroic display by Staveley 'keeper (D.Houghton) the win could have been more emphatic.

Two goals in the last ten minutes by Andy Marples and Simon Quigley kept Staveley Miners Welfare at the top of Division One with a 2- victory at last years champions Unstone Athletic who replied through an own goal

MINERS FINISH AS RUNNERS UP

Marsh Lane are the Division One Champions as they beat Staveley Miners Welfare 2-0 at Staveley. Their goals came from Andy Thorpe. The Welfare will now finish the  league season in second place.

(However) Staveley Miners Welfare reached the final of the Heppenstall Metals Byron Cup but they were made to fight all the way by Micheals Broad Oaks.

Staveley took an early lead through Tim Harrison, then Broad Oaks lost their goalkeeper Nigel Clarke with an injury, but came storming back with two goals from John Stacey to take the lead.

Staveley drew level with a goal from Neil Havenhand. Then with ten minutes remaining Tim Harrison scored his second goal of the game with a THIRTY YARD shot to put Staveley through.
