Postponements are a double edged sword, on the one hand you want to keep playing to maintain the momentum built up in the previous game (v Thackley) but on the other it gives you a chance to get players fit, rested and raring to go again. So perhaps the postponement wasn't as disappointing as it first seemed.
What a difference a day makes and today has been positively balmy for mid October and I'm confident that Saturdays game will go ahead. Although please check the usual websites for details.
This is our third encounter against North West Counties opposition and to try and beat us their league is sending two teams in the shape of West Didsbury AND Chorlton, for this FA Carlsberg Vase first round proper game....
No problem as we generally have to play against 14 players, what difference is 22 going to make?
…In all seriousness the name comes from West Didsbury AFC being forced to play 1.5 miles away in Chorlton after being evicted from their historical home Christie fields, which is now on office complex, ironically still called Christie “Fields”.
Despite not receiving a single penny from the ground sale West Disbury and Chorlton AFC have gone from strength to strength and are a great credit to the volunteers, committee and players who have refused to let their club die.
In recent seasons they have risen from the Manchester league winning the title in 2011 with a record points total (for that league) 65 from 72. Took the NWCL Division One title last year and are currently in 18th place in the Premier League - the same equivalent league as us.
Recent Outing
In the previous round WDCAFC (try getting that on a badge) travelled to our near neighbours Rossington Main. Leading 1-0 going into the final minutes west were comfortably seeing the game out when an assistant referee from over 40 yards away gave a throw in to Main instead of the corner to West that the referee had given (see - its not just us). From the resultant throw in Rossington charged up the field and equalised with a minute to go. Not to be denied however Louis Schofield slotted home in the dying moments to ensure that S43 3JL / Inkersall Road would be typed next in their sat nav.
Ones to watch
Tre Baldwin Willis has made 15 starts so far and has scored seven goals.
Alex Baird - Defender who has returned to the club following injury last season ,has played 14 times and been man of the match twice and has also seen red twice.
Finally…
There were many great performances from the lads against top of the league Thackley and they should take great confidence from it. If they play anywhere near as well we will be in for some great entertainment and more importantly, result.
UP THE WELFARE!
