Match Preview: Armthorpe Welfare - Home 8/11/14

The players had to dig deep against Cleethorpes at the weekend and it was by no means a "Vintage" performance but, they all count and the blue, white, yellow and occasionally orange Welfare Army march on towards....

Armthorpe Welfare.

Established in 1976 Armthorpe Welfare began playing in the Doncaster Senior League, winning back to back promotions to the premier league in 1982, where they again won the title. Armthorpe News

Theres been a bit of transfer activity this week defender Craig Morley has left to join Retford, but joining them is Craig Fletcher who has already scored 4 this season for Parkgate including one against us and 2 against Armthorpe!!

Head to Head: At Inkersall Road

Armthorpe have a marginally better league record at Inkersall Road having recorded 2 wins and 3 draws from the 6 games that have been played here, one of those games was a real humdinger…on the 12th October 1999 We defeated our friends from Doncaster-ish 5-1, with our goals coming from Viv Rayson 2, Ady Wells 2 and Peter Stubley 1.

The scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story though as Armthorpe actually went into the lead on what was to be a busy afternoon for the referee as no less than four players were sent off (Staveley 1 – 3 Armthorpe)  including two goal hero Rayson… which somewhat took the shine off what had been up till then our record Northern Counties victory.

Season so far…  (written before the postponed game on 8th November)

Last time out our visitors entertained Glasshoughton Welfare and won by the odd goal in 5. After going into the break 2 goals to the good they were hit by a sucker punch not too dissimilar to the one we gave Garforth last Saturday, not long after the restart the scores were level at 2 a piece, goals coming on 48 and 49 minutes. Craig Aspinall saved the day with the winner on 57 minutes.

This result moved them into 18th in the Premier League with 3 wins and 2 draws giving them 11 points, and are 13th in the form table though, and in Joe Lumsden (he's got 9 so far) they have a goalscorer that can cause any team problems, so we’ll have to watch out for him if we are to continue this fantastic run….

As always entry to the game is just.... £5 Adults and £3 Concessions
