Match Preview: v Glasshoughton 24/09/14

Getting something out of a game when you’re playing poorly is often the mark of a good team and that’s exactly what we did against Parkgate the game before last.

The performance couldn’t have been more different last Saturday (20/9/14) drawing 0-0 against league leading Handsworth Parramore and we were unlucky not to have nicked it, lets hope we get that bit of luck in the next game where we face

Who are yer?

Glasshoughton hail from Castleford and initially began by playing Sunday football as Anson Sports way back in 1964, a change to Saturday football required the scrapping of the “only playing employees” policy in order to compete as well as needing a more permanent home ground. Luckily the local colliery welfare had such a ground and no team to play on it so Anson accepted an offer to move and became Glasshoughton Welfare in 1974.

Since then there have been a few trials and tribulations, like at most clubs, but they did manage to win the West Riding County Cup in 1993/94, and the NCEL Presidents Cup in 1998.

Previously at Inkersall Road....

we're usually pretty decent against Glasshoughton at our home ground. out of the 8 games played we've lost just the once drawn the once and won the other 6. the biggest margin being 4-0 in a NCEL Division One game in 2011 when on the scoresheet were Ryan Damms, Aymen Tahar and Andrew Fox with 2, in front of a crowd of 77.

Final Thoughts

Glasshoughton haven't had the best of starts to the season and as such are second from bottom of the Premier League table, they won't be push overs though and we'll have to match them for effort if we're to prevail...so performance wise  More Parramore, less Parkgate, please. :)
